Naval Architect Structural (FEM)

Responsibilities

  • Analyse specifications, instruction drawings, and concepts
  • Translating customer objectives into realizable design solutions
  • Setting up and completing 2D drawings and/or a 3D model construction drawings and procedures, based on relevant information, specifications, rules and regulations, yards standards, service spaces, maintenance, and various components;
  • Creating and examining drawings for consistency with specifications, missing information, readability, and user-friendliness;
  • Drawing, checking, and applying physical models regarding the construction, load, and materials
  • Delivery of engineering work scope (structural) in line with the project’s technical specification, budget, and planning
  • Appraisal and adjustment of technical drawings in context of information, safety, stability, specifications, and readability
  • You report to the Project Manager and/or Lead Structural Engineer on progress, set-backs, and concerns and signal technical risks and anomalies in projects
  • Performing strength calculations based on the Finite Element Method, BEAM calculations, weight calculations.
  • Proficient user of applicable software packages such as ANSYS, RFEM, Mars, DNV Nacticus Hull, NAPA steel, Rhino / Grasshopper, Autocad


Skills / Experience

  • Proactive and innovative with resilient attitude, team player, and good communication and problem-solving skills;
  • Good knowledge of class and statutory rules
  • BSc or MSc degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (or a relevant engineering field)
  • Experience with complex projects / large vessels
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in ship design industry
  • Experience with structural analysis
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to set priorities, take a process-centred approach, and maintain an overview
  • In-depth experience in understanding ship design, welding, and buckling calculations
