Ursa – for Työvene

The Ursa, a trailing suction hopper dredger (THSD), was built by the Työvene shipyard for the Maritime office of Gdynia, and is the first of their fleet.
C-Job was responsible for the concept, basic and detail design, and the integration of dredging equipment.
About the project

Multifaceted design

Designed to operate both in deep and shallow waters – preserving depth in the main waterway between the Gulf of Gdansk, through the Vistula Lagoon to the Elbląg River – the vessel’s challenging design specification includes an air draft of 9.1 meters and the ability to work in very shallow waters with a minimum dredging depth of 5 meters.

The vessel’s wheelhouse and accommodation were placed at the front to ensure it could pass the Trasa Unii Europejskiej bridge. And due to weather conditions in the area, the vessel was designed to withstand temperatures of at least -10°C while dredging, and -20°C while in transport.

C-Job collaborated closely with Holland Marine Technologies, who supplied the dredging equipment, to agree interfaces and integrate the equipment to strict tolerances.

The Ursa’s design and details were completed to tight deadlines, with different engineering phases performed simultaneously which required precise project management and communication between C-Job, the client, suppliers and shipyard. The TSHD has a capacity of 950 m3, is 62.75 meters long, and has two propellers. It features one suction drag arm with a maximum dredging depth of 18 meters.

A new CSD 30″ – for the Port of Portland

To maintain its shipping channel, the maintenance dredger Oregon has been hard at work for the Port of Portland since its construction in 1965. Due to its age, the Port reached out to C-Job to create a concept design for a new CSD 30”, to replace the Oregon, which could run on marine diesel oil and also be methanol-ready.

Lorraine Hooks – for Mike Hooks LLC

C-Job completed the concept, basic, and detail design, plus systems integration for the 27-inch cutter section dredger Lorraine Hooks, for US dredging company, Mike Hooks LLC. We collaborated closely with SPI/Mobile Pulley Works (MPW) who constructed the dredge equipment in Alabama, and Southwest Shipyards in Texas, who built the vessel. The Lorraine Hooks was delivered to its owner in 2023.

Galveston Island – for GLDD

C-Job collaborated with Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (GLDD) and Conrad shipyard on the concept, basic, and detail design for a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD). The Galveston Island, is a simple and efficient vessel that was specifically designed to be easy to build.
