In order for cruise vessel MS Amadea to meet environmental guidelines to sail through Norway and the Mediterranean, C-Job assisted Bernard Schulte Cruise Services in her retrofit. We were responsible for many aspects of the retrofit including the structural and mechanical engineering of the new exhaust system, the installation of new generators, and providing onsite assistance to Damen Shiprepair where the retrofit took place. Refitting cruise vessels with more sustainable propulsion systems is a great way to decarbonize the maritime industry.

This month, we’re introducing you to Rolph. Rolph is an Expert Structural Engineer and R&D Consultant at C-Job. He’s 42 years old and he comes from Utrecht, in the Netherlands.

On a normal work day, Rolph starts by checking his emails and his agenda. He often works on commercial projects and does a lot of reading and writing. He also attends lots of meetings, answers questions from colleagues and clients, and sometimes he goes out to visit clients or partners. Rolph describes his work day as collaborative, interesting, and fun. Rolph’s favorite project to work on so far at C-Job has been the ALERD project, an autonomous low energy replenishment dredger concept, as it was a project he initiated himself and has continued to explore. What he likes most about working for C-Job is the work environment, C-Job has a warm atmosphere among colleagues and an eye for sustainability.

When he’s not working, Rolph likes to be active. He enjoys cycling, walking, running, and especially skiing and sailing. Rolph’s favorite animal is a mountain goat because its tough, enjoys climbing like he does, and never gives up.

Today we are proud to present the collaboration that C-Job and VIKTOR have been working on for the past two years! The collaboration has resulted in the creation of the ACD Resistance Module, a tool which can be used by our engineers to optimize hull design in the most efficient way possible, resulting in a smoother ship design process overall, and can lead to a 50% reduction in lead time.

C-Job R&D Engineer Roy de Winter, says of the tool “In the early phases of design, engineers must make decisions that can have an irreversible influence on later design stages. Therefore, it is beneficial to make these decisions in a data driven way. An optimization process is difficult and labor-intensive work, but is essential for a reliable and efficient result. Together with the VIKTOR platform, we were able to create a tool, the ACD resistance module, that optimizes this process and reduces building and operational costs.”

The ACD Resistance Module combines C-Job's technical knowledge and VIKTOR's software development knowledge, and its creation wouldn’t have been possible without them. To learn more about the project, check out the link at our bio.

Global finite element analysis is an important part of the ship design process. Global FEA proves the strength of a vessel to a high degree and has great benefits to ship design including risk mitigation and reduced follow up time. C-Job has developed a fast and cost-effective way to incorporate Global FEA into the design process, giving our clients the most efficient and strong designs possible.

Last week an exciting exhibition opened at the Shipwreck and Beachcombing Museum Flora on Texel. The TESO exhibition, a multimedia look into TESO's ferry operations, gives visitors the opportunity to explore the TESO Schulpengat wheelhouse, play games, and learn more about ferry operations. Being the proud designers of TESO's Texelstroom, we were honored to have gotten a sneak peek of the exhibition. C-Job CEO Job Volwater even got to check out the visualization that our team created for the show, our vision of the ferry of the future, and stop for a chat with TESO Director Cees de Waal. The exhibition is open now to the public, be sure to go check it out!

Today @P&O Maritime Logistics introduced their exciting zero-emission design, a multi-carrying vessel which will be converted into a cable-laying vessel, which C-Job supported them on.

C-Job Project Manager Marc van der Zwaluw said of the project, “We are pleased to support P&O Maritime Logistics with the design of a cable-laying vessel by repurposing an existing module carrier vessel. With the increasing demand in the offshore wind sector, this vessel will be able to meet the operational demands for the installation of next-generation windmill infrastructure thanks to its optimized deck layout."

In close cooperation with P&O Maritime Logistics, C-Job created a design that was best suited to our client's operational profile. The design features a DP-2 positioning system and a low fuel consumption propulsion layout that is ready to be used for green methanol fuel and zero emission operations in the near future. It is an honor to work with P&O Maritime Logistics on such an innovative design which will make a great impact on the offshore wind industry.

This month we’re happy to introduce you to Olena! Olena is a Structural Design Engineer and Coordinator for C-Job. She is 31 years old and she is from Nikolayev, Ukraine.

At work, Olena starts her day with a team meeting to discuss all of the tasks which need to be done that day with her team. After that, she sends lots of emails, answers questions from the team, and does structural work. She always takes a walk around the office during lunch to stretch her legs. Olena’s favorite project to work on at C-Job was a fishing vessel. She enjoyed that project specifically because she found the vessel really beautiful.

Olena’s favorite part about working at C-Job is her team and the variety of her work. She really enjoys having lots of different projects to work on. Olena’s hobby is sport, she enjoys going to the gym two or three times a week. Finally, Olena’s favorite flavor of ice cream is a classic, chocolate!

Starting the year off right! A few days ago, a group of our lovely colleagues continued a C-Job tradition, Ski-Job!

Ski-Job has been canceled for a few years in a row due to the pandemic, so everyone was super excited to pack up their winter sport gear and restart the tradition where it left off. After plenty of slopes, snow, and après ski, it's time to get back to work, though we're looking forward to next year already! ⛷️

Structural engineers are the key in translating a client's technical specifications to a compliant design. Structural engineers create the structural design of the vessel, determine the loads acting on the vessel, and check whether the design complies with the requirements set by clients, class societies, and regulatory bodies.

At C-Job, structural engineers work closely alongside colleagues from our other disciplines to ensure all requirements will be reflected within the structural design. Structural engineering is not only relevant on new builds, but also during retrofits when engineers need to modify vessels to accommodate new regulations or when new equipment is being installed.

Besides checking and improving the structural integrity of vessels, our structural engineers are well-versed in performing services such as vibration assessments and [Global] Finite Element Analysis, and can ensure that your vessel will be able to operate in any condition that you require.

Last week in Friesland, a north-western province in the Netherlands with their own language, @komaanboordfrl, a campaign focused on inspiring young people and educating them about the maritime industry, was launched. As we're passionate about sharing maritime knowledge, and our Heerenveen office happily calls Friesland home, C-Job is a proud sponsor of the campaign!

Over the course of 10 weeks the campaign will release a new short episode each week about a different aspect of shipbuilding, from the design of inland vessels to the carpentry inside of mega yachts. If you don’t speak Frisian, it might be a bit hard for you to understand, but it’s definitely worth giving it a look. Check out the most recent episode at the link in our bio.
