Bonny River – for DEME

C-Job was commissioned to develop the initial and concept design for this trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) on behalf of DEME, one of the world’s leading dredging companies. The Bonny River is a next-generation LNG-ready vessel, which is designed specifically to meet the challenges of dredging hard soils. It boasts a hopper capacity of 15,000 m³, and can operate in deep waters exceeding 100 meters.
About the project

High performance and a benchmark for sustainability

The Bonny River demonstrates C-Job’s expertise in creating innovative, environmentally conscious designs that meet the rigorous demands of modern dredging operations. We closely collaborated with DEME in the concept design phase to create a vessel which is both LNG-ready and capable of high-performance dredging in the toughest environments.

Our design integrates under-deck LNG tanks for protection and ease of maintenance, while keeping the dimensions and cost of the vessel competitive with other dredgers of a similar size. LNG-readiness is a forward-thinking solution and a significant advancement in the industry, since it allows the vessel to comply with stricter emissions regulations, significantly reducing its environmental impact.

A major design focus was the aft section of the ship, which needed to exceed industry standards in terms of performance. C-Job optimized this area of the vessel, resulting in superior hydrodynamic performance, confirmed by testing at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN). The optimization improves fuel efficiency, reduces operational costs and enhances the Bonny River’s maneuverability and overall effectiveness in dredging operations.

The close collaboration with DEME showcases the benefits of combining operational insight from an experienced dredging company with the technical expertise of leading naval architects. It has created a vessel which is a benchmark for future TSHD designs.
