It was a little under two years ago that C-Job opened its third office in Rotterdam. Back then CEO Basjan Faber explained that the decision to expand to this truly maritime city was based on that tried-and-tested mantra of real estate – location, location, location. “It’s a logical step to open an office in this global maritime hotspot,” he said at the time. “Most of the major players in the Dutch industry are there.”

Starting off with a modest team of just four people, the C-Job Rotterdam office has grown consistently since February 2017 to currently amount to 19 naval architects and marine engineers. Most importantly, states General Manager Maarten Veldhuizen, the team’s skills contain our whole range of services. “We are now a complete team – able to take on every naval architectural and marine engineering discipline. This includes a strong focus on interior design and 3D visualisation.”

Importance of interior design

Interestingly, the company’s work on interior design is broader than you might expect. “This includes the mega-yacht sector, but due to stricter standards of crew requirements and the competitive nature of crew recruitment, this has become increasingly important for commercial and offshore vessels too.”

3D visualisation – encompassing computer rendering and animations – is another trend in the world of naval architecture. “This is developing fast – and we are seeing this more and more,” Maarten goes on to say. “It can be used in two ways – to help us market our own ideas to clients, and also to help our clients sell their products and services.”

Need for new offices

In terms of clients, projects and staff, the growth of C-Job Rotterdam is expected to continue. It is for this reason that Maarten and his team will be moving to larger premises in Q1 2019. “We are moving to a location with more of a maritime character,” he notes. “The most important markets for us are passenger vessels, dredging, mega-yachts and the offshore industry – including oil and gas, offshore wind and decommissioning. Our new office location reflects this client base.”

The new office will also allow visitors and clients to get an up-close and personal impression of the interior design skills that C-Job has to offer. “Yes, we have designed the whole interior ourselves,” Maarten smiles proudly.

Crucially, however, the new office will provide sufficient space for further expansion of the team. “We will have space for the future. This will be very beneficial to our clients as having a larger team gives us far more flexibility – we can mobilise project teams very quickly. And, even though we have grown considerably in the last couple of years, we still maintain close contacts with our clients.”
